Antonietta's Omaggio to Andrew Wyeth

Antonietta's double-loggia cantina is just a few steps from mine tucked away in a little vicolo off via Fontana.

They were once both dwellings of a sort. Hand cut into tufa rock a hundred or more years ago, these grotto caves were gradually enhanced with terracotta floors and oak beamed lofts. Arched stalls & rough hewn wood boxes were built to house the family pig chickens & other live food stuffs. Cubby holes laid in for kitchen utensils. The comforts of home?

Now they resemble brigands roosts. Housing a world of odds & ends collected over a lifetime (or several) ... Antonietta's is a lot cooler than mine.

Kitchen Sessions

A hot night in early July with plenty of pizza and beer and the voice of Filomena D'Andrea like that of a young Edith Piaf emanating from my tiny kitchen, urgent, soulful and real. Percussionist (& poet vocalist of La Banda della Posta) Virginio Tenore and on guitar Enzo Perna from Rome. Stay tuned for their USA debut ....

Tiny kitchen, big ideas.
